Shopping Essie by formula
The Essie range here is grouped by formula rather than by season. Traditional lacquer is the brush-on polish that dries in air. Gel Couture is Essie's hybrid lacquer line. The gel range is cured rather than air dried, and Essie's own instructions cover curing and removal. The same shade name can appear on more than one formula, so check which formula a listing names before you order.
Choosing between them
Formula decides the service, not just the color. Lacquer is brushed on and dries in air, so a client can change it at home. Gel is cured and then taken off with a removal step. Whichever line you pick, follow Essie's instructions for that line on base coats, top coats, curing and removal rather than crossing systems.
